Our History:
Kent Community Nursery School (KCNS) opened its doors in September 1968, proudly serving the families of Kent and surrounding communities.  Since it began, KCNS has graduated over 700 children!  We are a traditional, non-sectarian preschool that is licensed and operated in accordance with standards set by the State of Connecticut.  The school is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is comprised of parents and members of the community.  Our teachers are committed to the developmentally appropriate practices endorsed by the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children).

Our Philosophy:
At KCNS, our goal is to ensure our children are in a safe, loving environment that provides them opportunities for exploration and growth.  Our teachers strive to create an atmosphere where children are encouraged to develop confidence and self-reliance skills that will make them better, happier individuals.  At this age, they go through many changes…socially, cognitively, physically and emotionally.  The caring, experienced teachers at KCNS expose the children to many situations and guide them in their learning.

Our School Spaces:
KCNS has a wonderful physical set up, with three rooms and an outdoor playground for the children to explore during the course of their day.

The Welcome Room, where children start their day, is filled with puzzles, games, a sensory exploration table, and other manipulative objects for children to investigate.  This is also the area where children work on art projects and have their lunch and snack.

In the Rainbow Room, the children have circle time with teachers.  It offers a gentle space for reading with a cuddly toy, drawing on chalkboards, or game playing in small groups.

The Block Area/Housekeeping Room is a dynamic space, filled with dramatic play options like dress up, a pretend home and kitchen environment, and a block area for constructive building and other imaginary play.

The Playground offers many different areas to explore, including swings, a sandbox, bikes, slides and climbing equipment.  The children are encouraged to be physical in a safe way, and the playground offers a wonderful place to help them develop their gross motor skills.
