"I love all the rooms here at KCNS. It allows the children a
larger variety of learning experiences as we move from class to class.
I enjoy the children’s enthusiasm and curiosity,
and I'm
honored to be entrusted with their care."

Ms. Debra Van
Keuren has been a resident of Warren, CT for the last 7 years where she
lives with her husband, Chuck, a freelance artist, her 19 year-
old-son, Ian, a freshman at Bennington College, and their five cats.
Debra worked as a family law
paralegal for
over 20 years and was an assistant teacher at Washington Montessori
School for four years. She also works part-time as the
Assistant
Librarian at the Warren Public Library. Her love of young children and
their enthusiasm for life and learning keeps her happy and grateful to
be teaching at KCNS. |
The Families:
The families at KCNS come primarily from the town of Kent, but also
from surrounding communities.
Our school offers an open door
policy to parents, which means parents are welcome to visit, to read
books to the class, or work on special projects with the
children. Parent participation in administrative ways is also
encouraged, from board involvement to substitute teaching, and help is
always needed with fund-raising projects throughout the year.
|
Parent Participation:
As the school is a non-profit organization firmly believing in the
benefit derived from volunteer parental participation, parent support
of the program is essential. Fund raising is necessary to keep tuition
affordable. Parents are expected to help with fund raising
projects throughout the year.
It is hoped that parents will volunteer services such as driving on
field trips, collecting necessary equipment, making costumes, and doll
clothes, etc. Special projects, interests, hobbies, and
skills
are welcome. Substitute teachers on a volunteer basis are
needed
– this is an excellent opportunity to explore your child's
school
day.
In the fall, we offer spring-blooming bulbs for sale as an early
fund-raiser, we do a very fun meet and greet Santa event called
Pancakes with Santa early in December, and there is usually an
enjoyable Ladies’ Night event early in February to round out
the
year. Because we truly only have a few fund-raisers throughout the
course of the year, we always hope for the greatest level of parent
participation at each event.
For further economy, parents will be asked to contribute monthly to the
school's snack pantry. Teachers provide sign-up lists, which
are
posted each month. KCNS is a nut-aware facility. |
